Adding Competitive Intelligence to your Corporate Toolbox

BI & Enterprise Performance Management is becoming important to corporate development. One of the most powerful capabilites that can be added is Competative Intelligence.Should your organisation consider the use of Competative Intelligence? Yes! The answer has probably always been yes, but in the past competative intelligence has required the engagement of market research professionals and was probably based more on gut-feel than cold-hard data. In today's business climate it is a necessity to stay ahead of the curve by enhancing the corporate BI capability to incorporate market knowledge. Business Intelligence is simply the foundation for building an advanced analytics capability, that must be deployed. The CFO screams "Help our profitability went down 5% last quarter!!!". Upon hearing this exclamation we have no context. Ignoring the look of fear on the CFO's face the statement may in fact be a positive statement. This is only possible if we also know that our corporate marketplace collapsed by an average of 10 to 15% during the last quarter and our biggest competitor's figures went down by more than 25%. Many industries have market bodies that monitor the state of the marketplace. However in order to gain any worthwhile competitive intelligence it is necessary to contribute to the pool of data within the marketplace. To succeed there is a need to give in oder to receive. Peter B. Giblett
